The Week From Hell Ends Here

So-
If you have no immune system,
and lupus,
and you know,
issues,
it's pretty much guaranteed
that you will catch your roommate's sickness
and it will grow,
this virus inside of you,
until you are 102.4 degree fevered mess,
one degree away from hospital admission.
That was my week. MRSA,
fevers, mouth sores, lupus ailments--
oh, what a week.

Today I got out of bed and went to my parents house,
taking the ferry to Atlantic Highlands.
I had not been out of bed since Sunday,
save for doctors visits and a truly MISERABLE trip to Duane Reade,
where I leaned against a Claritin display for support
and sent it crashing
to the ground.

But today!
Today I got onboard,
found my seat in the back,
and the sun hit my face,
East River spray soon to follow.
I breathed in,
and as I am wont to do after a rough few days,
I felt true,
true
gratitude.

  3. Kelly,

I found your site after being on Matt, Liz, and Madeline's, and one thing led to another I well, I have been reading your posts for well over an hour-long enough that my battery is close to shutting everything down.

I just want to tell you how sorry I am for all you have been through with your health. Very sorry for the pain you are clearly in at times.

I also wanted to tell you how much I also enjoy your sense of humor. You are one funny and inspiring woman. Brave woman.

  4. Julia--I truly cherish comments like this one. Thank you for reading. I am not really that brave--I just do what I have to do. Thank you so much for your words. They mean a lot to me.

Also I'm glad someone enjoys my sense of humor! (Besides my mother.)
